Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) is a Swedish forest products company. SCA operates five business segments: Forest, Wood, Pulp, Paper, Renewable Energy and Sourcing & Logistics. The company owns over 2.5 million hectares of forest in northern Sweden and operates sawmills, pulp and paper mills and generates renewable energy from wind and forest-based biofuels.
SCA believes that sustainability is integral to its business operations and success. All of the company-owned forestlands are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and SCA’s forests absorb approximately 4 million tons of CO2 annually, far exceeding the carbon dioxide emissions generated by the company. SCA also sets aside at least 5% of its forestland to remain as a natural ecological landscape. The company has 2020 goals to reduce its CO2 emissions from fossil fuels and purchased electricity by 20%, its suspended solids to water by 10% and increase its production of wind power to 5 TWh. To enhance worker health and safety, all fully owned main sites have OHSAS 18001 certification. SCA is dedicated to helping communities, too, investing in more than hundreds of projects each year.
A supplier for SCA was recently criticized for its poor working conditions.
