Pandora is a Denmark-based company that designs, manufactures, and markets jewelry. The company’s product offering is divided into five main categories: Charms and Bracelets, Earrings, Rings, Watches, and Necklaces, and Pendants. Pandora jewelry is sold in more than 100 countries. Headquartered in Copenhagen, the company employs more than 16,000 people worldwide.
In an effort to better understand the impacts of its inputs to production, Pandora has conducted a lifecycle assessment which showed that utilizing recycled gold results in a fraction of CO2 emissions, as little as 5%, compared to using gold that is mined. In addition, recycled silver results in a fraction of CO2 emissions, approximately 7%, compared to using silver that is mined. In response, more than 95% of Pandora’s gold feedstock is now recycled and more than 80% of the company’s silver feedstock is recycled. Additionally, all the silver and gold entering Pandora’s crafting facilities is certified conflict-free by the Responsible Jewelry Council. The company also notes that between 2012 and 2015, all of its diamonds used were sourced from its discontinued jewelry. Pandora owns 95% of its manufacturing sites, and the company has worked to limit its impact through achieving certification according to ISO 9001, 14001, 50001, and OHSAS 18001 standards. The company recently reduced the energy consumption in its stores 50% through overhauling its lighting systems.
Pandora does not disclose any goals to improve its key performance indicators. Additionally, on several occasions, the company has been fined for and accused of misleading shareholders.
