After the acquisition of Starwood, Marriott’s workforce doubled in size employing over 225,000 people. Marriott also has one of the largest portfolios of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified buildings in the hospitality industry. Additionally, with its Green Hotels Global Tool, Marriott encourages and reports on the implementation of resource conserving actions such as high efficiency lighting, recycling and low-flow showerheads. Finally the company has established carbon and water reduction goals for its company‐operated properties.
Although Marriott has demonstrated consistent progress against its current carbon and water reduction goals, these goals do not account for the company’s franchised properties. New group-wide goals are expected to be released soon.
