Ericsson is a leading provider of telecommunication and data communications systems.
More than 40% of the world’s mobile traffic passes through networks provided by Ericsson. Ericsson is also a global leader in telecom services; its customers include TV and media companies as well as utilities. Information and communication technology has the potential to assist in the transition to a low-carbon economy within areas such as transportation, development, and electricity generation and management. Ericsson is working with its customers to deploy an array of energy-smart transport solutions, including ConnectCar, a mobile system that informs drivers with up-to-date routes, weather reports, and vehicle information. The company also works closely with Acea, one of Europe’s largest utilities, to enable more intelligent electricity grids. In addition, Ericsson is working to expand broadband penetration and mobile communication capabilities into developing and emerging markets to improve health, education, and small business development.
Ericsson has employed Design for the Environment principles for more than 15 years and is committed to designing energy-efficient products, managing e-waste, and implementing sound supply chain practices. However, Ericsson doesn’t currently report on its operational waste or water use, which is an area for improvement for the company.
