Croda International Plc (Croda) is engaged in creating, making and selling specialty chemicals. The company’s Personal Care portfolio includes anti-ageing ingredients for skin, conditioning agents for hair care and metal oxides for ultraviolet (UV) filters. The company’s Life Sciences products deliver ingredients to pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets as well as to agrochemical companies. Croda also delivers ingredients for lubricants, coatings and polymers, polymer additives, geo technologies and home care.
Croda has a comprehensive sustainability strategy in place, demonstrating strong commitments to responsible manufacturing practices, reduction of direct environmental impacts, chemical safety and product stewardship. First and foremost, 100% of the company’s manufacturing facilities are certified to the ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management standards. With regard to chemical safety, Croda has applied the 12 green chemistry principles during the product design phase; over 65% of new products met these criteria. Croda is also heavily engaged in the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, having certified all of its relevant supply chains as of 2015. Lastly, in terms of reducing its contributions to climate change and environmental degradation, it is worth noting that Croda sources about one-quarter of its energy from non-fossil fuel sources and has been extremely successful in improving its energy and water utilization profiles through various efficiency and water recycling initiatives.
Although Croda has recently developed new targets to mitigate occupational health and safety related risks, the company’s past performance in meeting targets were lagging.
